Purpose of Role

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Elementary Teacher facilitates student achievement and growth in academic and interpersonal skills. The role is responsible for implementing district-approved curriculum, creating a safe and positive learning environment, tracking and documenting student progress, and maintaining open, professional communication with students, parents, and administration.

Essential Functions

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, differentiated lesson plans across foundational subjects (English, math, science, and social studies) consistent with school district goals, grade-level expectations, and state standards.
  • Identify diverse student needs and adapt instructional methods, offering individualized or small group instruction to support or enrich students, including those with special needs.
  • Administer formative, summative, and mandated standardized tests; evaluate academic and social growth, and provide specific, timely, and constructive feedback to students, using the data to drive instructional changes.
  • Establish and enforce positive behavior rules, maintaining a safe, organized, inclusive, and functional classroom built on mutual respect and rapport.
  • Maintain prompt, accurate, and complete records of student attendance, grades, developmental milestones, and progress reports in compliance with district policies and applicable laws.
  • Regularly communicate academic and behavioral progress to parents/guardians. 
  • Actively collaborate with grade-level teams, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and other staff to assess curriculum and solve student learning or health challenges.
  • Supervise students during out-of-classroom activities throughout the school day, including recess, bus duty, field trips, and before- or after-school assignments.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, school committees, and professional development in accordance with District and Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidelines. 
  • Maintain regular attendance and emotional control under stress.
  • Other duties as assigned by the building-level administrator. 

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Arkansas (AR) teaching license/certification appropriate for the grade level.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of elementary school curriculum and current teaching methods.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills; proven ability to establish cooperative, positive working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively use computer network systems, educational software, and relevant classroom technology.
  • Understanding of applicable federal and state education laws, school board policies, and administrative regulations (including citizenship and student safety mandates).
  • Strong organizational skills, a capacity for self-evaluation and continuous professional growth, a professional appearance, and conscientious, responsible behavior.
